Chilean Sergio Larrain the justly famous Czech Josef Koudelka whose artistic nature is also proven by the fact that he has a desire to break free from the photographic standardization of himself and it is okay if this sometimes leads him to unsuccessful results. Of course some more can be added to the above even though the enumeration is indicative and does not constitute a list. But among them and I mean among the good ones two notable Greek photographers are also included. Konstantinos Manos born in America a resident of Boston and a member of Magnum since the s and Nikos Oikonomopoulos who also became a full member of the agency a few years ago.
We will have the opportunity to deal extensively with Manos e-commerce photo editing since the Benaki Museum is preparing a large solo exhibition for him for the end of the year together with the reissue of his very important book The Greek Portfolio. Nikos Oikonomopoulos whose burning desire for years was to join the Magnum agency which he achieved after persistence effort selfsacrifice and a lot of work naturally bears traces of all the above Magnum peculiarities and weaknesses. However his undeniable talent allows him to control them often avoid them and sometimes turn them to his advantage.
After he joined the agency we were lucky enough to see three of his photo albums. And I say luck because not many Greek photographers struggle with their own or foreign means to publish books with their work even though it is the best way to exist and communicate with the public. Few of us knew the photos of Economopoulos before his first book Balkania. This along with several magazine publications made him more widely known and secured him an audience. A few months ago his third large monograph The Woodcutters was released. In accompanied by a CD with songs by Dimitra Galani had arrived.
